Israeli airstrikes killed dozens, including children, on Sunday in Lebanon and isolated northern Gaza, amid international attention on the potential impact of the US election on conflicts involving Israel and Iranian-backed groups Hamas and Hezbollah.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that he has spoken three times with Donald Trump since Tuesday’s election, noting they “see eye-to-eye regarding the Iranian threat and all of its components.” Israeli President Isaac Herzog is scheduled to meet with US President Joe Biden on Tuesday.
In Lebanon, an Israeli airstrike killed at least 23 people, including seven children, in the village of Aalmat, located north of Beirut and distant from the Hezbollah-dominated regions in the east and south. No evacuation warning was issued by Israel.
The Israeli military reported that it struck a Hezbollah weapons storage site, and the incident is currently under review.
Hezbollah initiated rocket, drone, and missile attacks on Israel following the outbreak of war in Gaza, expressing solidarity with Palestinians and Hamas. In response, Israel launched retaliatory attacks, escalating the situation into full-scale warfare.
In northern Gaza, an Israeli strike on a home sheltering displaced people in Jabaliya refugee camp killed at least 17 people, including nine women, according to Dr. Fadel Naim, director of Al-Ahly Hospital in Gaza City.
Israel’s military claimed that the strike targeted a militant operating location but did not provide evidence and stated that the incident is under review.
In a separate attack, a strike hit a residence in Gaza City, killing Wael al-Khour, a minister in the Hamas-run government, along with his wife and three children, as reported by the Civil Defence first responders working under the government.
