Israeli Army Prepares for Ground Offensive As Airstrikes Intensify In Southern Lebanon

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border are escalating, with Israeli military chief Herzi Halevi stating that the latest strikes in southern Lebanon are part of preparations for the “possible entry” of Israeli troops.

Since Monday, over 90,000 people have been displaced in Lebanon, according to the UN, as Israel continues what it describes as “extensive” strikes across southern Lebanon and the Beqaa region.

On Wednesday alone, Lebanese health authorities reported that 51 people were killed in the Israeli air raids. The strikes are part of Israel’s ongoing military operations to target Hezbollah, the Iran-backed group, which Israel says poses a significant threat.

Earlier, Israeli forces successfully intercepted a ballistic missile launched by Hezbollah towards Tel Aviv, marking the first time the city has been directly targeted in the current wave of conflict.

Hezbollah has framed its actions as resistance against Israeli “aggression” and a gesture of solidarity with Palestinians amid the broader regional conflict.

The cross-border hostilities, which began shortly after the events of 8 October, have led to near-daily exchanges of fire.

The Israeli military says its operations aim to remove the threat posed by Hezbollah, while around 60,000 residents of northern Israel have also been displaced by the ongoing conflict.
