Israel Upgrades Travel Advisory Following Explosion Near Embassy in Delhi

Israel has heightened its travel advisory for citizens in India after a low-intensity explosion occurred near the country’s embassy in Delhi’s Chanakyapuri diplomatic enclave on Tuesday evening. While no injuries were reported, police recovered shrapnel from the blast site, prompting an ongoing investigation.

In response, Israel has urged its citizens to exercise caution, avoiding crowded places such as malls and markets, and steering clear of large-scale events. The country acknowledged the possibility that the explosion could be an “attack,” expressing concerns about a potential recurrence.

The National Security Headquarters (NSH) of Israel issued a public message on Tuesday, advising Israelis in India, especially Delhi, to stay vigilant. The NSH recommended avoiding the display of “Israeli symbols” in public and refraining from sharing trip details or photos on social media channels.

This precautionary measure follows an earlier warning from the NSH this month, advising Israelis to reconsider international travel and to avoid outward displays of their Jewish identity due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, which began on October 7.

While the claims of casualties and figures from the conflict in Gaza have not been independently verified, Israel continues to be cautious in its travel advisories. Authorities in India have responded by tightening security around the Israeli embassy and other Israeli establishments in Delhi. Notably, in 2021, an explosion outside the Israeli embassy caused damage to cars, but no fatalities were reported in that incident. The current investigation aims to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the recent explosion and ensure the safety of citizens in the region.
