Israel Launches Retaliatory Strikes on Iranian Military Sites Amid Rising Tensions

In response to a recent missile attack from Iran, Israel targeted military sites in Tehran, achieving its objectives.

Israel conducted strikes on military sites in Iran early on Saturday, framing the actions as a response to a missile attack launched by Tehran earlier this month.

The Israeli military announced that it had completed its operations and met its objectives, cautioning Iran against any retaliatory measures.

Iran’s state-affiliated media reported multiple explosions occurring over several hours, starting around 2 a.m. (2330 WAT on Friday), with strikes affecting military targets in Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces.

The Iranian military claimed its air defence systems successfully intercepted some of Israel’s attacks, resulting in only “limited damage.”

This latest escalation follows a series of heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, particularly since Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which was supported by Iran-backed Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.

Concerns are growing that the conflict could draw in other regional powers, including the US, as Israel intensifies its military operations against Hezbollah and maintains its ongoing campaign in Gaza.

Israel’s military justified its strikes by citing months of Iranian aggression against Israel, declaring, “In response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel – right now the Israel Defense Forces is conducting precise strikes on military targets in Iran.”
