Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced that Tuesday, August 20, 2024, will be a public holiday for all government employees in Lagos State to celebrate the 2024 Isese Day.
The declaration was made in a circular titled “Commemoration of Year 2024 Isese Day – Declaration of Work-Free Day,” issued on Monday by the state’s Head of Service, Bode Agoro.
As a result of this decision, all public offices, including the courts, will reopen on Wednesday by 8am, giving traditional religious adherents the opportunity to observe their special day.
The circular read, “It is hereby notified for general information that this Year’s Isese Day Celebration will hold on Tuesday, 20th August 2024.
“In emphasising commitment to give necessary support to traditional institutions, as well as enhance the promotion of indigenous tradition by preserving cultural heritage, Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved that Tuesday, 20th August, 2024, be declared a Work Free Day for Public Servants in the State.
“Consequently, work resumes on Wednesday, 21 August, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. Accordingly, all Accounting Officers are enjoined to note the contents of this Circular and give it the deserved Service-wide publicity”.
“Ìṣẹ̀ṣe” refers to the Yoruba religion, which encompasses the traditional spiritual beliefs and practices of the Yoruba people, who primarily reside in what is now Southwestern Nigeria.
