Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, on Tuesday, has claimed that Tehran was not involved in the militant Hamas group’s weekend attack on Israel.

In his first televised speech since the attack, Khamenei said “We kiss the hands of those who planned the attack on the Zionist regime.

“This destructive earthquake (Hamas’ attack) has destroyed some critical structures (in Israel) which will not be repaired easily. The Zionist regime’s own actions are to blame for this disaster.”

Israel has long accused Iran’s clerical rulers of fueling violence by supplying arms to Hamas.

The United States, on Monday claimed that Iran was involved in Hamas’ attack on Israel, but it stressed that there was no evidence supporting the assertion.

The US also warned Iran not to get involved in the crisis to avoid escalating the conflict.

After yet another night of continuous Israeli airstrikes on the enclave, Israel announced earlier on Tuesday that it had regained control of the Gaza border and was laying mines where militants had overthrown the barrier during their brutal weekend assault.

Israeli TV channels said the death toll from the Hamas attack had climbed to 900, with at least 2,600 injured, while Gaza’s Ministry of health reported that at least 687 Palestinians were killed and 3,726 wounded in the Israeli air strikes since Saturday.
