In a significant escalation of tensions in the Middle East, Iran has launched a missile attack on Israel, with some reporters in Jerusalem confirming the sound of interceptions in the skies.
Israeli authorities report however, that no injuries have been recorded so far, and civilians have been instructed to leave bomb shelters.
The Israeli military further responded with strong warnings, as Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari declared, “This attack will have consequences.”
This latest assault marks a sharp uptick in hostilities between the two regional powers. Although the intercepted missile attack has not resulted in casualties, it has heightened tensions in a region already on edge from weeks of unrest.
At the same time, Israeli forces have entered Lebanon in what is being described as a “limited, localised and targeted” operation aimed at Hezbollah, a militant group aligned with Iran.
The Israeli military invasion comes amid growing concerns that Hezbollah could launch cross-border attacks in solidarity with Iran, drawing both Israel and Lebanon into a broader conflict.
According to an Israeli security official, no clashes had been reported as of Tuesday morning.
However, later in the day, the Israeli military issued evacuation orders for civilians in about 25 Lebanese villages, further intensifying fears of a prolonged conflict along the Israeli-Lebanese border.
The Lebanese Prime Minister has issued a dire warning, describing the current situation as “one of the most dangerous phases” Lebanon has ever faced.
He revealed that over one million people have already been displaced due to the recent surge in violence, compounding an already critical humanitarian crisis in the country, which has been grappling with political instability and economic hardship.
