IPI Mourns Death of Institutes’ Former President, Lateef Jakande

The International Press Institute (IPI) has expressed its sadness over the death of its former leader and former Governor of Lagos State, Lateef Jakande.
ARISE News had reported that the first civilian Governor of Lagos State died in the early hours of Thursday at the age of 91.
In a statement on Thursday, the IPI said Jakande was not only a celebrated editor in Nigeria but was also a  devoted member of IPI and  President of the IPI Executive Board.
“The International Press Institute( IPI) mourns the death of its former leader and former Governor of Lagos State,  Alh. Lateef Jakande.
“Alhaji Jakande was not only a celebrated editor in Nigeria, he was a  devoted member of IPI and  President of IPI  Executive Board.
“We send our condolences to the family of our departed leader and the media community,” read the statement signed by Kabiru Yusuf, the Chairman, IPI Nigeria and Raheem Adedoyin, Secretary, IPI Nigeria.
Jakande, a former journalist became governor of Lagos State in Nigeria from 1979 to 1983, and later was Minister of Works under the Sani Abacha military regime.
His administration as governor of Lagos state is still revered for the massive infrastructural development recorded during his four-year stint especially the numerous Jakande Estates built across many local governments in the State as well as sterling investment in schools.
