The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced that they are suspending the collation of the governorship election results in Abia and Enugu States.
The Commission, in a statement by Barrister Festus Okoye, stated, “It will be recalled that our office in Obingwa Local Government Area was invaded by thugs yesterday, Sunday 19th March 2023, and our officials held hostage in relation to the collation of results from the Local Government Area. Similarly, reports from Enugu State call for a review of the results for the Governorship election from the two outstanding Local Government Areas of Nsukka and Nkanu East.”
To this effect, the Commission then suspended the collation of results in the Obingwa LGA of Abia State, along with the Nsukka and Nkanu East LGA’s of Enugu State, saying that a review will be undertaken before the process in concluded. A date for the continuation of the results collation was not indicated.
They appealed to the candidates, parties, and the voters in the affected States for their understanding, as this process will also mean a delay in the announcement of the election results in these States.
