I’m Not Afraid Of Legal Action, We Will Meet In Court, Onanuga Responds To Peter Obi’s Defamation Claims

The special adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Communications and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has responded to the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, Mr Peter Obi, on the suit filed against him, saying that he (Onanuga) is ready to meet Obi in court.

Onanuga made this response in a post on his page on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, where he said, “I am still waiting for the  letter from Peter Obi’s lawyer threatening a N5 billion suit and demanding an apology to Peter Obi over the planned ‘revolution’. “Let me just tell Obi and his lawyer : I am not afraid of any legal action.  We shall meet in court.”

This response came after Obi initiated legal action against Onanuga, with his legal team demanding a retraction and N5 billion in damages for a defamatory publication that they claim has significantly harmed Obi’s reputation.

The Presidential aide had, in a statement on X, alleged that “Peter Obi’s supporters are the people planning mayhem in Nigeria” and held Obi responsible for potential anarchy. This claim was further disseminated across various social media platforms and major Nigerian news outlets.

Obi’s legal counsel, Chief Alex Ejesieme, SAN, then refuted the allegations, describing them as “false and malicious.”
