Eminent businessman and senator representing Ondo South in the Senate, Dr Jimoh Ibrahim, has vowed to deliver on critical concerns in the state, such as insecurity, unemployment, deteriorated infrastructure, healthcare, and education, if elected as Governor.
The chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Global Fleet Group stated this, in Akure the Ondo State capital while speaking with Journalists on his intention to contest the November 16 governorship election in the coastal state.
Basically, the senator who is from the South Senatorial district, to which the APC governorship may be unofficially zoned, said he intends to map Ondo state borders for security networks in order to put a total end to kidnapping, armed robbery and farmers/herdsmen clashes in the state.
Ibrahim, fondly called Araba by his vast admirers, said having identified unemployment as one of the major factors responsible for insecurity, he will also provide youths access to capital and financial services, skills training and entrepreneurship support.
His words: “My programmes are very straightforward. We are to create moral efficiency and moral knowledge and making the body more efficient. We must also map Ondo state borders for security networks and then to ensure that we will never have any cases of kidnapping, by making Amotekun a classic and unique security outfit that will come with good strategy to challenge any security issues in our state.
“So one of the areas we are looking at is to ensure that everybody in Ondo state can go to sleep with their eyes closed and that’s top most of our priority. Mapping every systems, the tactical operations of Amotekun have to come more distinct into technology, I want an Amotekun that is IT informed because I have PhD in War. So we need to do more of IT, our government will ensure that Amotekun is IT compliant through strategy and innovations and it’s going to be well funded to ensure that people of Ondo State can sleep with their two eyes closed.
“And if we have security first, if we can be secured individually, we will secure the state. So, I’m saying now that the Amotekun will have the highest attention in terms of information technology, I am an expert in security, I may not be wearing military uniform and when I become the governor, we must have residence card, containing all your data.
According to him, “We are going to face infrastructural development by making sure that we create employment through that. So we should expect the bitumen act that I’m moving at the Senate, which is now at the third reading to be more prominent and classic in engagement.
“Also in the North, we are going to do swap contracts, we are not going to spend kobo to construct our roads. Also, the civil service will be very top instrumental that will run the government to ensure that they are computerized. We are going to devote powers to Commissioners to make them powerful so that they will not be running after the governor for any approval.”, he said
Besides, the Senator said he has intensified mobilisation in the state. He is breaking new grounds daily as his message of hope resonates with the people’s aspiration for better life.
He noted that in a bid to take his campaign to the nooks and crannies of the state he has visited the 18 local council areas of the state and in the second leg, he is currently on tour of the 203 wards, starting from Ondo South district, where he hails from to the North and the central.
“I’m declaring my intention to run for the governorship election of Ondo State, among the contestants, I am the oldest among all of them, I have contested election twice in my life time, one of which I contested for governorship position during Adefarati in 2003, and non of these contestants was on that ballot.
“Beyond that, I contested for Senate, I won the six Local Government Areas, and APC has never won the election for Senate in the zone until I contested. We have a strategy which we call; ‘Aseyori’, meaning breakthrough! We used this strategy to run the primaries for the senatorial election and scored 193 votes out of 300, which is over 70 per cent of the votes.
“I won very convincingly, so second time I am contesting now is this one because the last governorship election, I was just an aspirant trying to run under the PDP but Eyitayo Jegede got the ticket. But I am here again to contest for the governorship election.”
On electricity, he said, ‘It is not necessary that I need to go and meet BEDC before Ondo state can have light, at the Cambridge where I studied for six years, we generated our electricity by winds and solar, so we have solar farms there and others. So there are so many ways to get electricity. We might decide to map the state entirely in order to have electricity.
