IGP Egbetokun Redeploys Tunji Disu, Other Police Commissioners In Strategic Command Shake-Up

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has implemented a significant reshuffle of police leadership, redeploying commissioners of police in Rivers, Delta, and the federal capital territory (FCT).

This move, announced by Muyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, aims to enhance the operational efficiency of the force and address security challenges more effectively across the country.

According to the announcement, Olatunji Disu, previously serving as the commissioner of police in Rivers state, will now head the FCT command. Abaniwonda Olufemi, who was in charge of the Delta state police command, has been transferred to Rivers state, while Peter Opara, former commissioner of police for the FCT, will take charge of Delta state’s police command.

In addition to these changes, the IGP has appointed four new commissioners of police for the Lagos, Abia, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom commands following the approval of the Police Service Commission (PSC). The new appointees include Isah Danladi Nda for Abia command, Olarewaju Ishola Olawale for Lagos, Anthonia Adaku Uche Anya for Ebonyi, and Festus Eribo for Akwa Ibom.

Adejobi emphasised that these redeployments are part of a broader strategy by the IGP to ensure “maximum utilisation of human resources” within the force. The changes are intended to position the police force for greater effectiveness in maintaining law and order across the country.

The statement read further, “The IGP has, however, urged the new CPs of state commands to ensure diligence in the discharge of their lawful duties and adopt innovations that could mitigate security challenges in their respective areas of responsibility.

“He further encouraged them to key into the police reform plans, which will help the progress of the Nigeria Police Force and the growth of the country in general.”
