Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has presented a detailed strategic plan to bolster effective policing across Nigeria and the broader West African region.
The presentation was made during the AFRIPOL Steering Committee Meeting in Algeria on 30th October 2024. Egbetokun’s action plan includes strategies for conducting coordinated investigations and operations to address rising crime across the continent.
A press statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobu, revealed that IGP Egbetokun, during the meeting, highlighted the importance of specialised officer training to meet global best practices and navigate the complexities of modern policing.
Following his presentation, Egbetokun visited the AFRIPOL headquarters, where he met with AFRIPOL President Douglas Kanja, Inspector General of Kenya’s National Police Service. Both leaders discussed managing violent protests in Africa, with Ambassador Mohammed from the African Union’s legal consulate also in attendance.
IGP Egbetokun called on African policing leaders to fully implement the policies established at the meeting, stressing that adopting these strategies at all policing levels is crucial to addressing crime across the continent. He urged that expertise and proficiency in fighting crime within the African region are paramount, reaffirming the commitment to regional security and collaboration.
