I Will Remain Steadfast in the Fight Against Bad Governance – Femi Kuti

“Whoever wins the election will always meet steadfast people like me to oppose bad governance and this will go on until Nigeria becomes the country it should be”- Femi Kuti- Musician & Political activist

“The route Nigeria is going has been failed for the last 20 years. I’m in a country that has been deteriorating my whole life; Nigeria has no excuse to be in the predicament we are in today.”

Kuti believes that the impeachment of President Buhari should have happened long ago because he has proven not to have the answers to the problems Nigeria faces.

Kuti says, “Nobody is safe anymore, there are so many forces trying to disrupt the elections next year. If the elections do not hold, we are giving this government an excuse to hold on to power.”

Of presidential candidates, Kuti says “I have reservations on everybody, I am not convinced by anybody in the political scene.” He adds that while he doesn’t wish to name anyone, he will continue to fight for Nigeria through his music.

Regarding the ASUU-NLC joint rally, Kuti states “I fail to see where NLC has had a strike that is meaningful and successful to move this country forward.” He adds, “Nigeria should have the best universities in Africa, but bad governments got us here.”

Despite “everyone still voting the people Fela opposed in his lifetime”, and the injustice the Kuti family have faced”, Kuti says “I believe there is hope, we cannot give up on Nigeria or Africa.”

Kuti feels that, “The route Nigeria is going has been failed for the last 20 years. I’m in a country that has been deteriorating my whole life; Nigeria has no excuse to be in the predicament we are in today.”

Responding to whether he feels the burden of being Fela’s first son he says, “I never saw this as a burden, I just wanted to play music to express myself.”
