Dutch great Marco van Basten has criticised Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag over his handling of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Van Basten believes Ronaldo stormed out of Old Trafford before the end of victory over Tottenham due to being left on the bench by Ten Hag.
He said on Ziggo Sport: “It’s not easy to talk about, but I can understand Ronaldo.
“That he thinks: give it to you lazarus He was just angry, insulted. In the end three boys came in and he wasn’t.
“Maybe I could have done it too. I don’t let such a trainer bleep me. That’s how he feels. It plays a lot in him and in his personality. He feels offended. He understands it too, but in such a way that one day it will be too much for him.
“I understand Ten Hag and he has to keep his leg up. Everything Ten Hag does is fair, but these are other people. They are very proud. Ronaldo is a special person. He has a special character and you have to also treat him in a special way. That all sounds weird, strange and crazy. But I think that’s the reality.”
