Nigeria’s Police boss Usman Alkali Baba has ordered an internal investigation into allegations and indictment processes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) against Abba Kyari, a deputy commissioner of police.
Spokesman of the Nigerian police, Frank Mba in a statement on Thursday said the police is “committed to the pursuit of justice and the strengthening of its professional relationship with the FBI and other international partners.”
The FBI had revealed how Kyari allegedly collaborated with fraudster Ramon “Hushpuppi” Abbas to jail one of his associates after a dispute over a $1.1 million scam on Qatari businesspeople.
According to the US agency the Hushpuppi hosted the celebrated investigator in Dubai.
Kyari has since hurriedly denied the allegation, claiming that his “hands are clean”.
“Sequel to the receipt of allegation and indictment processes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) against one of the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, DCP Abba Kyari, the Inspector General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba psc (+), NPM, fdc has ordered an internal review of the allegations,” the police said in the statement.
“Further developments on this case will be communicated to members of the public accordingly.”
