Mateo Kovacic, himself only recently back from injury after being out since April 10, replaced him.
Kante has been in outstanding for the Blues this season, but recently suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty.
He managed 90 minutes on Saturday as Chelsea were beaten for Leicester in the FA Cup Final.
Kante was earlier on Tuesday named in France’s squad for the upcoming Euro 2020. Les Blues looking to add the trophy to their World Cup won three years ago.
