House of Reps Mourn the Death of Yet Another Member, Ekene Abubakar Adams

The Nigerian House of Representatives has once again been thrown into a state of mourning following the death of one of its lawmakers, Ekene Abubakar Adams.

Adams, who represented the Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency of Kaduna on the Labour Party (LP) platform, passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 39.

Before his untimely passing, Adams served as the chairman of the House Committee on Sports. His career in sports management included tenures as the general manager of Kada City Football Club and Remo Stars.

His dedication to sports and youth development was a hallmark of his professional life, earning him respect and admiration from colleagues and constituents alike.

In a statement, Akin Rotimi, spokesperson of the house, said the lawmaker was a “dedicated public servant, passionate sports administrator, and kind philanthropist”.

He said Adams was a “kind and gentle humanitarian, loved by all who knew him”, adding that his dedication to the development of grassroots sports in Nigeria was “unwavering” and his contributions to the house will be deeply missed.

Adams’ death comes less than a week after the passing of Olaide Adewale Akinremi, another member of the House of Representatives, who represented the Ibadan North federal constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akinremi’s death followed that of Isa Dogonyaro, who represented Babura/Garki federal constituency of Jigawa State and died in May after a brief illness.

With Adams’ passing, the House of Representatives has lost three members in 2024, marking a somber period for the lower legislative chamber. The loss of these dedicated public servants has left a significant void in Nigerian politics, and their absence will be felt deeply by their colleagues and constituents.
