House of Representatives Approves Tinubu’s Proclamation of Emergency Rule in Rivers State

The House of Reps has approved President Tinubu’s state of emergency declaration in Rivers State, suspending Governor Fubara and elected officials.

The House of Representatives has approved President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, endorsing the six-month suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.  

President Tinubu made the announcement the on Tuesday, citing months of political turmoil that, according to him, have crippled governance and posed a threat to national stability. 

The President, in a nationwide broadcast, stated that the persistent crisis in Rivers State necessitated federal intervention to restore order.  

As part of the emergency measures, Tinubu appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as the Administrator of Rivers State for an initial period of six months. The retired Naval Chief was also sworn in by the president on Wednesday.
