Heathrow’s Third Runway Gets Green Light from UK Government

Britain’s Labour government has backed plans for a third runway at Heathrow Airport, with Rachel Reeves citing economic growth and job creation.

Britain’s Labour government has thrown its support behind plans for a third runway at London’s Heathrow Airport, with Finance Minister Rachel Reeves announcing on Wednesday that the expansion could create over 100,000 jobs and drive economic growth.

Speaking in a policy address, Reeves emphasised that the case for Heathrow’s expansion—already the busiest airport in Britain and Europe—was stronger than ever. “We cannot duck the decision any longer,” she stated. “A third runway at Heathrow would unlock further growth, boost investment, increase exports, and make the UK more open and connected.”

Reeves also criticised previous delays in approving the project, arguing that indecision had undermined investor confidence in Britain’s commitment to economic progress. With this renewed government backing, the long-debated expansion could finally move forward, though it is expected to face environmental and logistical challenges in the coming months.
