Harry Kane has announced that he will stay at Tottenham this summer after a move to Manchester City failed to materialise.
It has been a summer of speculation for the England captain with stories galore about a potential move to Premier League champions Manchester City.
In a post on Twitter, Kane said: “It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I’ve had in the last few weeks.
“I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100 per cent focused on helping the team achieve success.”
Kane, who has been a target for City all summer, came off the bench in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Wolves in the Premier League in his first appearance since returning late for pre-season.
The England captain, though, remains adamant that he was always scheduled to come back later than his teammates after Euro 2020.
Kane is believed to have been keen on a fresh challenge and the chance to link up with Pep Guardiola’s men, however, the interest from the Manchester club has not been enough to test Spurs’ resolve to keep the current holder of the Premier League’s Golden Boot and Playmaker awards.
So far City are believed to have only made a bid of £75 million plus £25 million in add-ons and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has not been shaken from his intention to keep the north London’s club’s second highest goalscorer of all time.
Kane, who signed a six-year deal in 2018, returned from his summer holidays this month and following the mandatory five-day isolation at The Lodge hotel at Hotspur Way he returned to training.
At first, he worked on his fitness with Tottenham’s sports science staff, missing the first two games of the season against Manchester City and Pacos de Ferreira, the latter in the Europa Conference League play-offs.
He rejoined full training with the squad and Spurs head coach Nuno Espirito Santo included him in the squad that travelled to Wolves on Sunday.
Kane came off the bench for the final 15 minutes of the encounter and was well received by the thousands of travelling Tottenham fans.
Espirito Santo has publicly stated that the striker has been training well and Kane could be seen encouraging his team-mates from the bench before coming on at Molineux.
