The United Sates (US) Vice President Kamala Harris has expressed her willingness to use her gun in self-defense, stating, “If somebody breaks into my house, they’re getting shot.”
Harris made the comment during a lighthearted exchange with Oprah Winfrey at a livestreamed event in Michigan on Thursday. Harris acknowledged thereafter, “I probably shouldn’t have said that, but my staff will deal with that later.”
She confirmed to Oprah Winfrey that she’s a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, which guarantees Americans the right to bear arms.
A gun owner herself, Harris reiterated her support for stricter gun control measures, particularly a ban on assault weapons.
“I think for far too long on the issue of gun violence, some people have been pushing a really false choice to say you’re either in favor of the Second Amendment or you want to take everyone’s guns away.
“I’m in favor of the second amendment, and I’m in favor of assault weapons bans, universal background checks, red flag laws,” she said.
