Haiti’s capital has reportedly remained relatively calm on Wednesday, just two days after Prime Minister Ariel Henry announced his intention to resign in the face of escalating violence orchestrated by powerful gangs.
However, signs of concern emerged as both the United States and the United Nations initiated the withdrawal of staff, indicating apprehension over the sustainability of peace in the region.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, following discussions with Caribbean leaders and representatives from Haiti’s government and opposition in Jamaica, expressed optimism about the formation of the transition council in the coming days.
Despite the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) outlining the composition of the council, the specific appointments remain undisclosed.
Amidst these developments, Jimmy “Barbeque” Cherizier, Haiti’s most influential gang leader, reportedly dismissed the transitional council, casting uncertainty over the country’s political future.
While protests against the transition plan erupted in downtown Port-au-Prince recently, the city largely maintained a semblance of peace.
Prime Minister Henry’s recent efforts to secure support from Kenya for a long-delayed security mission to combat gang violence were hampered by his inability to return to Haiti amid the escalating turmoil.
However, assurances from Kenyan President William Ruto regarding Nairobi’s readiness to lead the mission once the new council and interim prime minister are established provided a glimmer of hope for stability in the region.
As Haiti grapples with political upheaval and surging violence, the international community closely monitors developments, hoping for a peaceful transition and effective measures to address the root causes of the crisis.
