Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has urged friends, associates, and the general public not to organise any birthday celebrations or place newspaper advertisements for his 57th birthday, set for December 21, 2024. Instead, he called on well-wishers to make cash or material donations to special schools and centres catering to less privileged children in the state.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, on Thursday, the Governor specifically requested that donations be directed to three Government Special Schools: the School for the Deaf in Ikoro-Ekiti, the School for the Blind in Ikere-Ekiti, and the School for the Mentally and Physically Challenged in Ido-Ekiti. He also highlighted the State Relief and Rehabilitation Centre for the Mentally Challenged in Ado-Ekiti as a worthy recipient.
Governor Oyebanji expressed his preference for these gestures, noting that financial and material gifts to the less privileged would be more meaningful than social gatherings or advertisements. He emphasised that every opportunity should be used to uplift vulnerable members of society.
Reflecting on last year’s celebration, the Governor recounted the joy brought to students in special schools by donations made in his honour. He encouraged friends and associates to replicate the gesture this year to bring smiles to the faces of children with disabilities.
The statement also provided details of donation accounts for the institutions, which are as follows:
- Disability Affairs Office Overhead: Account No. 0080045180, Premium Trust Bank
- EKSG Special School for the Deaf, Ikoro-Ekiti: Account No. 0080047610, Premium Trust Bank
- EKSG Special School for the Blind, Ikere-Ekiti: Account No. 0080047593, Premium Trust Bank
- EKSG Special School for Children with Physical and Intellectual Disabilities, Ido-Ekiti: Account No. 0080047634, Premium Trust Bank
Governor Oyebanji reiterated his commitment to supporting the less privileged, urging others to join him in making a difference during this year’s celebration.
