Governor Fayemi’s Purported ‘Suspension’ a Nullity – APC

The National Secretariat of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the actions of a faction of the party in Ekiti state that earlier suspended the state Governor Kayode Fayemi as a nullity.

Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena, in a press release said the Party’s National Secretariat was yet to receive communication from the state chapter on the purported “suspensions” and strongly advised all members to adhere to the Party’s constitution.

“The attention of the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to a purported and widely-reported “suspension” of the Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi as well as an earlier reported, “indefinite suspension” of some other party members in the state.

“The actions are a nullity as the Party’s National Secretariat is yet to receive communication from the state chapter on the purported suspensions. Governor Kayode Fayemi remains the leader of the party in Ekiti State,” Nabena said.

Earlier, a faction of the party in Ekiti state led by Tony Adeniyi, a former senator who represented Ekiti-south senatorial district had suspended the governor of the state for what was described as “his numerous anti-party activities, especially his role in the recently concluded governorship election in Edo State which is contrary to the provisions of the party’s constitution.”

Alongside the governor, a special adviser to President Buhari on political matters, Babafemi Ojudu;  a former member of the house of representatives, Omotunde Ojo, and nine other party members, were suspended for “contravening” the party’s directive.

But the APC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary called on party members and leaders in the state to be duly guided. Nabena said members of the party should abide by the President’s admonition to party members to ensure and support the ongoing amicable and rancour-free settlement of internal party disputes.

Nabena said, “for the avoidance of doubt, the Architect Paul Omotosho-chaired APC Ekiti State Working Committee is the authentic, valid, and duly recognized Executive as no factions or divisions exist in the State Chapter.”
