Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially approved a bill adopting a fresh logo for the state.
Adeleke in a press statement signed by the spokesperson to the State Governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, described the new logo as an emblem of a rebirth for Osun, reflecting its rich heritage and promising future.
“I am delighted to endorse this new Logo as a symbol of rebirth for our beloved State. It encapsulates our historic anthem, values, and traditions,” the Governor stated.
He emphasised that the logo serves as an educational tool for the younger generation, showcasing the state’s landmarks, strengths, resources, and history while also serving as a marketing tool for both local and international audiences.
Also, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, echoed the governor’s sentiments, lauding the new logo as meaningful and representative of the state’s people, heritage, and potential. “I congratulate Mr. Governor and the entire people of Osun state on this historic occasion. For us at the State Assembly, we will continue to robustly support the many laudable initiatives of the executive arm of government.”
The newly enacted law provides intricate details about the new logo, including its symbols, icons, and colours. These elements include the Circle symbolising perfection and wholeness, the Y representing the three Senatorial districts in Osun State united as one hence the lack of delineation between all three elements.
The Osun River is represented and connected to a Waterfall, Osun state being “State of the Living Spring”. The river situated on the upper part of the Y, supplies water to the fertile Brown Agricultural soil of the land on the left. It also wets the Mountains on the right of the Y. The Waterfall also supplies water that nourishes the Leaves and the Cocoa seeds, which also houses the fishes. In essence this represents the source of life and nourishment in Osun State.
Brown Agricultural Soil is said to represent fertility and a source of food, the Mountains in various contexts representing tourism, hospitality, and spirituality and the Ori Olokun which represents the common origin of the Yoruba race and a great symbol of Osun State especially for Royalty.
The rays of light (Imole in Yoruba) is said to symbolise clarity, enlightenment, hope and guidance, often representing knowledge, truth and understanding. Its placement at the top clearly represents its importance in the state as its rays touch every element/symbol of the state thereby bringing light (progress, success and clarity) to it.
The colours of the new logo, gold, ruby red, orange, and yellow, signify the royalty, nobility, hospitality, and joyful spirit of the Osun people.
Governor Adeleke’s assent to the bill and the introduction of the new logo reflects the government’s commitment to revitalising the state’s identity and fostering a sense of pride and unity among its citizens.
