Glenfiddich Unveils Grand Yozakura in Nigeria

Glenfiddich, the renowned single malt whisky,  has proudly announced the launch of the first Single Malt Scotch Whisky to be finished in rare ex-Awamori casks, in Nigeria.

This exclusive limited edition is the newest addition to the prestigious Grand Series, blending the finest flavors of Scotland and Japan.

Whisky enthusiasts were treated to an unforgettable experience over the weekend at the highly-anticipated unveiling event at Mako Lagos. The remarkable event showcased an extraordinary whisky, crafted with utmost precision and offering a truly unique flavor profile. Combining African-Japanese influences, the event seamlessly blended culture and gastronomy. Guests were indulged in an artfully crafted menu, thoughtfully curated to harmonize with the nuanced flavors of the whisky. The sophisticated ambiance of Mako Lagos, provided the perfect setting to commemorate the introduction of this extraordinary whisky to the Nigerian market.

The Grand Yozakura is a 29 Year Old Whisky matured at the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown and finished in oak casks that previously matured the oldest distilled alcoholic spirit in Japan, Awamori, producing a finish unlike any other. Awamori is made using long grain indica rice and is traditionally stored in clay pots and matured in oak casks. It is said that the technique for making the spirit has not been altered in over 500 years. Only a small proportion of Awamori is aged in oak casks making them exceptionally rare.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Eddie Madaki, the Prestige Manager, William Grants and Sons, said, “We are delighted to introduce the Glenfiddich Grand Yozakura to Nigeria. Grande Yozakura celebrates Hanami – the “cherry blossom festival”, where Japan appreciates the temporal beauty of nature through the sakura. The festival, known as the Yozakura or ‘night sakura’, offers a time of renewal and optimism that is most enchanting when illuminated after dark.”

“This exceptional whisky reflects the artistry and dedication that have made Glenfiddich one of the world’s most respected distilleries. We believe that whisky connoisseurs in Nigeria will appreciate the intricate flavors and exquisite craftsmanship that Grand Yozakura offers.” He added.

The Glenfiddich Grand Yozakura will be exclusively available at select luxury retailers and exclusive whisky establishments across Nigeria at a retail price of N2,500,000.

Speaking at the event, Frances Nosa, Country Manager, William Grants & Sons stated, “As the first limited edition release within the series, Grand Yozakura carries a sense of anticipation and celebration. The whisky encapsulates the brand’s pioneering spirit and dedication to crafting exceptional, high-quality products by bringing together two rare elements – a 29-year aging process and the use of ex-Awamori casks. This unique combination pays homage to Glenfiddich’s innovative nature and serves as a testament to their ability to create dynamic and remarkable spirits.”

The grand celebratory event served as the perfect culmination to honor and commemorate the globally recognized World Whisky Day, an annual occasion observed on the 20th of May across the world.
