I have been in this club when I was nothing
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje on Wednesday assured Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) of the party’s support for growth and development.
Ganduje made the promise during a courtesy call on him and presentation of APC Cup 2024 by the leadership of the organization as a seal of confidence that the supporters club was committed to advancing the course of football across the nation and the world.
“I assure you, I have accepted this gift. And I will assist the supporters club. I will ensure that it gets special consideration because APC is a party of the people. The supporters club is for the people. And everybody.
“So, we assure you of our own support and considerations. I have been in this club when I was nothing but now that I am in this important position, I will support you because you have made us proud. And APC is proud of you”, he declared.
Earlier, the President General of the NFSC, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, who led members of the team to the visit told Ganduje that the club has been supporting football for many years.
According to him, he was supposed to be in Cote D’lvoire but he has to embark on the visit before going to join his members at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote D’lvoire.
“The supporters club has been there for 66 years. And we have been supporting football all around the world. We have done it so far that we have been adjuded to be the best from the whole world by FIFA and CAF in 1994 and 1996 and by CAF in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
“As the National Chairman of the APC, and a member of the supporters club, a patron of the supporters club, when I was with you in Kano, this was supposed to happen in Kano. But it is happening in Abuja. So the supporters club is happy to be here to decorate you as our national patron.”
Ladipo said that this decoration was a prelude before President Bola Tinubu saying it is enshrined in the supporters club constitution that any current and sitting President of Nigeria is the grand patron of the supporters club.
“We want you to help us to inform him. That we are ready. I was supposed to be in Côte D’Ivoire for the ongoing African Cup of Nations. But this is important and that is why I am staying behind. I want to see Mr. President before going to Cote D’lvoire.”
Among those in his entourage included Prophet Godwin Ikuku, Comrade Moses Ebahor, Comrade Ameachi Umeh and Felix Nicholas.
