The Nigerian film, ‘Omo Ghetto (The Saga),’ produced by actress Funke Akindele-Bello, is now Nollywood’s highest grossing movie of all time.
In a statement released by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), the comedy film has grossed N468,036,300 since its release in December. The film has led the Nigerian box office for three consecutive weeks since its Christmas Day release.
‘Omo Ghetto (The Saga)’ broke a four-year record held by Kemi Adetiba’s comedy film, ‘The Wedding Party’ which grossed a staggering N453,000,000 during its run in 2016. Its sequel, ‘The Wedding Party 2’, is Nigeria’s third highest grossing film with N433,197,377.
Omo Ghetto (The Saga) is the sequel to 2010’s ‘Omo Ghetto’ and follows the life of Shalewa, also known as Lefty, who struggles between living a life of wealth and comfort and returning to her ghetto lifestyle.
Funke Akindele plays the dual role of Ayomide and Lefty, with Tina Mba, Adebayo Salami, Chioma Akpotha, Bimbo Thomas, Eniola Badmus, Mercy Aigbe, Timini Egbuson and Alex Ekubo supporting.
