Bassirou Diomaye Faye has on Tuesday, been sworn in as Senegal’s youngest president, promising reforms after recent election victory.
The 44-year-old pan-Africanist leftwinger, who has now made history as the youngest elected president in Africa, has assumed presidency without prior elected office experience.
Several African leaders, including Nigeria’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu, attended the ceremony in the new town of Diamniadio, near the capital, Dakar.
Faye’s ascent follows a surprising election win, just 10 days after his release from prison under President Sall’s amnesty.
