For more than a decade, First Cardiology Consultants Hospital in Lagos has been providing comprehensive cardiovascular care to patients in Nigeria.
But cardiovascular care, especially open heart surgery, isn’t affordable to a majority of people in the country. So the group is now on a mission to deliver inclusive and accessible care to patients in need through their new foundation – The Healthy Heart Foundation.
On Monday, September 13, a team of local and international surgeons performed the very first open heart surgery to be sponsored by the foundation and its partners.
ARISE News Correspondent Laila Johnson-Salami was present for the procedure and sends this report.
