Former White House Chief Strategist Bannon Released After Serving Four-Month Prison Sentence

Steve Bannon, Former White House Chief Strategist, was released from prison early on Tuesday after completing a four-month sentence for defying a subpoena related to the congressional investigation into the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol attack.
Bannon exited the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, according to Kristie Breshears, spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. His representatives announced he planned to hold a press conference later in the day in Manhattan.

On Tuesday morning, Bannon resumed his podcast and online show, stating his commitment to supporting Trump’s presidential campaign.

He criticised the Democrats and their policies, alleging that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi orchestrated his imprisonment to suppress his voice, despite his conviction by a jury and subsequent sentencing by a judge.

Bannon said, “The four months in federal prison not only didn’t break me, it empowered me. “I am more energised and more focused than I’ve ever been in my entire life.”

Bannon began his sentence on July 1 after the Supreme Court denied his request to postpone the prison term while he appealed his conviction.

In 2022, a jury found Bannon guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress: one for refusing to testify before the January 6 House Committee and another for failing to provide documents related to his involvement in Trump’s efforts to overturn his defeat in the 2020 presidential election.

Additionally, Bannon is facing separate criminal charges in New York state court, where he is accused of defrauding donors who contributed to the construction of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Bannon has pleaded not guilty to charges of money laundering, conspiracy, and fraud, among others. His trial in this case is set to commence in December.
