The National President of All Farmers Association of Nigeria Kabiru Ibrahim has said that President Bola Tinubu has done the right thing by declaring food security a state of emergency in the country.
In an interview with ARISE NEWS on Friday, Ibrahim spoke about his support for the focus on food security in Nigeria. He also mentioned that if this effort had been made in prior administrations, we would be better off now regarding food security.
Furthermore, he mentioned that he hopes the palliatives in place to alleviate the sufferings of poor Nigerians are given to those affected and not siphoned. In addition, he also added, “When we get a critical mass to do the distribution of palliatives, problems happen. When this happens, we must look at the competence and integrity of the people in charge.”
Speaking on Insecurity, the president of the farmers association said that Insecurity in farms is a strong threat to the productivity of farmers, as they are usually scared to go to their farms, which reduces productivity. In his words, “Everyone requires productivity, and to have that, we must stem insecurity. I hope it is not business as usual.”
He expressed hope that with the new focus of the presidency on food security, the lax insecurity of farmers will be taken seriously since it is the bedrock of curing food insecurity in the country.
