First Lady Remi Tinubu Urges Women Empowerment On International Women’s Day

In commemoration of the 2024 International Women’s Day, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has said that it is time now more than ever to invest in women and accelerate progress in places that need women involved.

Addressing the diverse roles played by women – Daughters, Sisters, Aunts, Mothers, Grandmothers, and Great Grandmothers – Senator Tinubu expressed gratitude for their unwavering resilience, passion, and courage that has propelled society forward.

Underlining this year’s theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” the First Lady issued a compelling call to action, emphasizing the crucial need to invest in women for societal advancement. She reframed this investment not as an act of charity but as a strategic move to shape the future of Nigeria.

“I see investing in women, not as charity, but a strategy to build the future of our dear nation, Nigeria. Equipping you with education, resources, and opportunities to unleash your full potential, supporting your businesses, helping to dismantle economic barriers, and ensuring your voices are heard is a very crucial step,” Senator Tinubu stated.

In a challenge to women across the nation, she posed the question: “What are you doing to help the other woman? How are you investing in her?” Stressing the importance of unity, support, and mentorship among women, Senator Tinubu urged women to come together, bond, and uplift one another.

“This is the pathway to accelerated progress. I charge all women; just pull a sister up, one at a time. You will be amazed at what we can achieve collectively,” she said.
