A fire emergency unfolded at the international terminal of Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed airport on Wednesday morning.
The origin of the smoke was determined to be from the basement of the Terminal structure.
A blaze ravaged a portion of the airport, specifically the primary gateway. Firefighters were promptly dispatched to control the situation, and it disrupted some airport activities.
The administrative office of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) was also impacted by the fire.
The FAAN, Director Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, said, “Promptly responding to the situation, the dedicated firefighters from the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport initiated immediate action.
“Their swift response and professional efforts have successfully brought the situation under control.”
He also stated that all individuals at the Terminal structure were swiftly cleared due to the presence of smoke in certain parts of the facility.
“We are pleased to report that the situation is presently under control,” he added, “FAAN remains committed to her core values of safety, security and comfort.”
