A devastating fire at a ski resort hotel in northwestern Turkey has left six people dead and 31 others injured, according to state broadcaster TRT.
The tragedy occurred at the Kartalkaya ski resort in Bolu province early Tuesday morning.
The blaze began at approximately 3:30 a.m. local time (0030 GMT) on the fourth floor of the 11-storey hotel, which houses its restaurant. Bolu Governor Abdulaziz Aydin reported that firefighters were still battling the flames hours later.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire but have confirmed an investigation is underway. “The fire started on the restaurant floor, and we are working to uncover the details,” Aydin stated.
At the time of the incident, 234 guests were staying at the hotel. Emergency services acted swiftly to evacuate the building and provide medical care to the injured.
The Kartalkaya ski resort, a popular winter destination, has been shaken by the incident, with guests and locals mourning the loss of life. Further updates are expected as authorities continue their investigation into the cause of the fire.
