Local media reports suggest fifteen members of the Ghanaian parliament and 56 staff members have contracted coronavirus.

The reports which quoted Alban Bagbin, the speaker of the parliament said the MPs returned positive tests following a recent round of testing.

The infected lawmakers and staff have been asked to self-isolate while undergoing treatment, according to reports.

Following the development, Bagbin said parliament will only sit on Tuesdays and Thursdays from next week, with entry permitted to MPs and staff needed for the business of those days, the speaker is reported to have said.

“Only members of Parliament and members of staff who are needed for the business of the House on those days will be allowed in the presence of Parliament from next week,” Mr Bagbin said.

Ghana has so far recorded over 69,255 cases and 440 deaths since it reported its first case in March last year.
