Abel Ejikeme

Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi says the federal government has allocated about N3.49bn for the supply and commissioning of 150-ton capacity railway crane.

The Minister said the allocation formed one of two memoranda approved for the Ministry of Transportation by the Federal Executive Council. Amaechi told reporters after the council meeting that the project is to help in emergency situations and the recovery of rolling stocks.

“Another one is the award of contract for the development of the proposed Kano-Katsina-Jibia to Marabi rail line in the Niger Republic, and to Dutse the capital of Jigawa State for a total cost of $1.9bn.

Meanwhile, the federal government also approved N197.8m for the expansion of the cash management software of the Nigeria Customs Service and says it’s in compliance with the International Public Sector Accounting Standard.

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, briefed journalists shortly after the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting and said the approval by the Federal Executive Council is part of plans to enhance efficiency in the Customs accounting department.

Mohammed said another three hundred and fifty-one million Naira was approved for the procurement of 1800 laptop computers at the Customs training schools in Lagos, Kano, and the nation’s capital, Abuja.
