Fatal Cargo Plane Crash Near Vilnius Airport Leaves One Dead

A cargo plane accident near Vilnius airport in Lithuania in the early hours of Monday resulted in at least one fatality and three injuries.

According to local officials, the plane operated for DHL by the Spanish cargo airline Swiftair, crashed near a residential property during its final approach to the airport. Police have confirmed the safe evacuation of all 12 occupants from a nearby house.

The aircraft had taken off from DHL’s hub at Leipzig Airport in Germany shortly after 03:00 local time (02:00 GMT) and crashed approximately an hour and a half later, as indicated by data from flight-tracking website Flightradar24.

Despite the crash, flight operations at Vilnius airport continue as authorities manage the incident, Flightradar24 reported on X.

The cause of the crash remains unknown, and Lithuanian authorities have launched an investigation.
