Fans Sue Madonna Over Late Start Time Of ‘Celebration Tour’ Concert

Court records reveal that two Madonna fans are suing the American singer for being almost two hours late for her concert in New York last month.

They claim that although the concert was scheduled to begin at 20:30 EST on all three evenings, it actually started later than expected each night and ended at approximately 1:00.

According to the complaint, if they had known it would end so late, they “would not have paid for tickets”.

The case, which was brought by Michael Fellows and Jonathan Hadden, said that “many ticketholders who attended concerts on a weeknight had to get up early to go to work and/or take care of their family responsibilities the next day”.

The promoter, Live Nation, and the venue, the Barclays Center, are being sued for “false advertising, negligent misrepresentation, and unfair and deceptive trade practices”.

The lawsuit records mention that other nights at the same location, on December 14 and 16, also purportedly started more than two hours late, Fellows and Hadden were present at the event on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

The document stated. “Defendants failed to provide any notice to the ticketholders that the concerts would start much later than the start time printed on the ticket and as advertised, which resulted in the ticketholders waiting for hours.”

The court papers also revealed that Madonna “has a long history of arriving and starting her concerts late, sometimes several hours late”, citing examples including “her 2016 Rebel Heart Tour, her 2019-2020 Madame X Tour, and prior tours, where Madonna continuously started her concerts over two hours late”.

Fans have previously protested to the singer for being late for her performances; in 2019, one fan filed a lawsuit against the singer for being late for a US engagement, but the singer voluntarily dropped the lawsuit a month later.

In the same year, Madonna had shared a post of her live on stage where she addressed her fan saying, “There’s something that you all need to understand. And that is, that a queen is never late.”
