Explosion at Action Peoples Party Secretariat Raises Security Concerns in Rivers State

A recent explosion at the APP secretariat has heightened fears of political unrest in Rivers State amid ongoing tensions.

An explosion at the Action Peoples Party (APP) secretariat in Rivers State on Monday, has raised concerns about the safety of political offices in the region.

The incident prompted an immediate response from local authorities as they work to uncover the details of the blast.

Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State police command, confirmed the explosion and reported that a bomb disposal unit has been deployed to the scene.

She also added that it was too early to confirm whether the explosion was caused by a bomb.

“We are aware of the incident and have dispatched our bomb disposal team to the location to determine what exactly transpired,” Iringe-Koko said.

“The extent of the damage was not significant, and we have initiated an investigation. Further details will be made public after the investigation concludes.”

This explosion comes on the heels of a similar incident in June, which occurred near the Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt, amidst protests by political leaders against police occupation of the 23 local government area (LGA) secretariats.

Following the June incident, Governor Siminalayi Fubara suggested that those advocating for emergency rule in the state might have been responsible for the attack.
