Europe Vows Proportional Response To Trump’s Tariff Plans, Avoiding Escalation

Europe will respond proportionately to Trump’s tariffs but aims to avoid escalating trade tensions, says French Industry Minister Marc Ferracci.

Europe will respond proportionately to the expected implementation of new tariffs by US President Donald Trump but will not escalate tensions, French Industry Minister Marc Ferracci said on Wednesday.

Speaking on RMC radio, Ferracci emphasised Europe’s commitment to diplomacy over conflict in trade disputes.

“Europe has always been on the side of negotiation and calming things down, because trade wars, you know, only produce losers,” he stated.

US President Donald Trump is set yo announce sweeping new reciprocal tariffs on global trading partners on Wednesday, raising concerns about price increases and likely prompting retaliation from other countries..

While the European Union has historically responded to US trade policies with countermeasures, Ferracci’s remarks suggest a measured approach aimed at avoiding a full-scale trade war.
