The European Union has so far committed over €100 million to assist in the sustenance of democratic governance in Nigeria since 1999. The EU also said that an additional €50 million was provided to support the Federal Government’s fight against insurgency and insecurity in the country.
The Head of the Delegation, European Union in Nigeria, Ambassador Ketil Karisen, who revealed this on Wednesday at the commencement of a four-day orientation and induction programme for legislative interns organised by the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC), said the assistance were in different areas, including policy sensitization and capacity building aimed at helping the country to stabilize the practice of democracy.
