Enikoumehhin: Tinubu Saved Ondo From Chaos By Intervening in Akeredolu-Aiyedatiwa Rift

Legal Practitioner, Benson Enikuomehhin and Dele Fulani, an APC stalwart discussed the recent intervention of President Tinubu in the recent  crisis surrounding Ondo State and its governor’s absence.

The meeting concluded with the report that all participants at the conference agreed to maintain the status quo, meaning that Akeredolu would continue to serve as governor, current acting governor, Aiyedatiwa as deputy governor therefore no impeachment would occur.

In an ARISE NEWS interview on Monday, Mr. Enikoumehhin stated that he is in support of the president’s intervention and decision by keeping the governor and his deputy in office whilst the latter continues in the position of acting governor until Akeredolu is in full recovery.

“Because his inability to perform is hampering with his performance in the state, a good number of persons, which I am in party with, have said his deputy should act in that capacity as envisaged and promoted by the constitution.

“The president’s intervention in this matter can be interpreted as a call to the deputy governor not to reshuffle the current political structure”

The lawyer also stated that the removal of the governor would have thrown the state into turmoil and though the president made the right conclusion, the state should have kept the issue as a closed door occurrence.

“The current leadership crisis in Ondo state is fueled by the 2024 elections. Interests from political gladiators are working against the transfer of power to the deputy governor.”

In the same interview, Dele Fulani, a Stalwart of the All Progressives Congress party to which governor Akeredolu is under stated that the presidential intervention was very much required because he believes that certain political powers may strive to take steps that would impeach the deputy governor unjustly.

“Prior to the understanding between the President, the deputy governor and the political actors in Ondo State, the Deputy Governor had an office without power and could have been impeached in the coming days.”

He stated that the removal of the deputy would have left the state naked before the return of its governor who he argued was in a healthy state and simply resting after his recovery which would be anytime soon.
