#EndSARS: Flutterwave’s Account Not Frozen, Shut Down Voluntarily

Contrary to reports circulating on Nigeria’s social media that the bank account of Flutterwave – a fintech payment platform used to receive donations for the ongoing protests against police brutality in the country – has been temporarily blocked, new findings have revealed that this is inaccurate.

A total of N16,706, 635.00 had been donated into the account by Tuesday, according to a post on Flutterwaves’ official Twitter handle. This includes donation in foreign currency.

The organisers of the protest have been using the donations to fund medical supplies, food, drinks, legal aids, and others to sustain the protest.

However, according to insider reports, Flutterwave’s management voluntarily shut down the system, “when the bad guys were moving money through them.”

It has been revealed that the Central Bank of Nigeria has been very helpful with Flutterwave on the #EndSARS protests.

“There are individuals at the CBN that supported the #EndSARS movement as Nigerians who have experienced the menace that is SARS and all the appurtenances,” said social media influencer Omojuwa in a tweet, after apologising for previous tweets castigating the CBN.
