#EndSARS: Buhari Promises Extensive Police Reforms

Following days of protests by Nigerians in response to brutality meted out by the Police, especially by a unit gone rogue known as the Special Anti-robbery Squad, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday promised police reforms.

Sending out a message on his official Twitter account, President Buhari said:

“The disbanding of SARS is only the first step in our commitment to extensive police reforms in order to ensure that the primary duty of the police and other law enforcement agencies remains the protection of lives and livelihood of our people.”

Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu had on Sunday announced the dissolution of SARS during a press briefing in Abuja.

However, the protests continued across the country, including the nation’s capital Abuja and it’s commercial capital Lagos. The protesters demanded a reform of the Police Force in entirety.
