#EndSARS: Buhari Must Stop Violent Crackdown on Protesters, Says US Presidential Hopeful Joe Biden

US Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has called on Nigerianl President Muhammadu Buhari and the country’s military to cease the violent crackdown on protesters in Nigeria, which has already resulted in several deaths.

He condemned the violent attack on peaceful demonstrator stating that “the United States must stand with Nigerians who are peacefully demonstrating for police reform and seeking an end to corruption in their democracy.”

“I urge President Buhari and the Nigerian military to cease the violent crackdown on protesters in Nigeria, which has already resulted in several deaths. My heart goes out to all those who have lost a loved one in the violence.

“The United States must stand with Nigerians who are peacefully demonstrating for police reform and seeking an end to corruption in their democracy. I encourage the government to engage in a good-faith dialogue with civil society to address these long-standing grievances and work together for a more just and inclusive Nigeria,” Biden stated.

There’s been outrage in the country and around the world after soldiers opened fire on peaceful anti-police brutality protesters in the country’s largest city Lagos on Tuesday night.

Unconfirmed reports suggest several people were killed as a result of the attack.

Amnesty International (AI) has said it is investigating the killings of the peaceful protesters after receiving credible but disturbing evidence of excessive use of force occasioning deaths of protesters.
