#EndSARS a Reawakening Call, Says former Transcorp CEO

Days after what many have termed the reawakening of the Nigerian youth, the #EndSARS protests against police brutality have snowballed into a campaign for justice from people who are angry and fed up with the government and governance.

Valentine Ozigbo, a governorship aspirant in the 2021 Anambra State governorship election now describes #EndSARS as a metaphor for everything that has been bad for Nigeria including bad governance.

“If you see, beyond that five-point agenda, every other person started to come up with everything that we needed to end beyond SARS.

“It’s good this has started, it’s a reawakening call, I like to see when people speak up and speak out when things go wrong, so I totally identify with them,” Ozigbo said on ARISE News.

Ozigbo is also a former Chief Executive Officer of the Transnational Corporation of Nigeria, owners of the Transcorp Hilton hotel. He said the #EndSARS protest was inevitable as the country’s older generation has unduly taken what belongs to the younger generation.

“If you study our economy closely, you will find out that a lot of sectors where the government has just been out of the way is where the youths have actually done well.

“The entertainment industry, the sports, and all of that, they do well because the government has little or no presence there and it looks as though when the government comes in they become a blockade and this is what we’ve seen.

“The older generation has taken what is due to the younger generation and it was only a matter of time they will protest and so this was inevitable,” he said.
