At least 10 Nigerians have so far been killed by the Nigerian police since the #EndSARS protests started last week, that’s according to global human rights group Amnesty International.
“So far, Nigerian Police have killed at least 10 people since the start of protests against callous operations of SARS.” the group said in a social media statement.
The country’s president Muhammadu Buhari had dissolved the police unit called Special Anti-Robbery Squad on Sunday, but inspite of the announcement, Police brutality is had continued as reports emerged of police dispersing crowds with teargas, water cannons and live ammunition.
Security operatives assaulted ARISE News crew covering the #EndSARS protest at least twice in the last 48 hours.
The TV stations’ camera and microphones were seized and another destroyed by security operatives.
The Nigerian authorities have been on the global spotlight since the protests began as world entertainers also joined in the call for an end to Police brutality in Africa’s most populous nation.
