Embattled PDP Chairman Damagum Mocks Nigerians Amid Economic Hardships

The truculent Acting National Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Usman Damagum, on Friday took a jab at Nigerians for the hardships they are currently facing due to the ongoing economic crisis.

He suggested that those suffering the most today are the ones who exchanged their votes for items like wrappers and spaghetti, leading to the election of ‘incompetent’ leaders.

Damagum made these remarks while leading State Chairmen of the PDP in the six North-East regions during a courtesy visit to Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, at the Government House.

In an interview following a closed-door meeting with the Governor and his team, Damagum, who was suspended by a faction of the PDP National Working Committee, told journalists that the current economic hardships should serve as a lesson for Nigerians to avoid electing incompetent leaders in the future.

When asked about the recent increase in petrol prices, he said: “The sufferings that are happening in Nigeria, the increase in fuel price and foodstuffs, those that collected spaghetti and wrappers to bring this (Bola Tinubu) government (into power) are feeling the pains and suffering more than anybody else.

“This should be a lesson for all of us that we should look for credibility, those who have been proven and tested, those who are ready to govern us.

“The APC was never ready to govern, so what good could possibly come from them?

“They (Nigerians) should vote for competent people not those who say ‘it is my time,’ like they have always said ’emi lokan.'”
